Amanda Armstrong (Founder of Study Psychology)
A-Level Psychology Specialist
I am a qualified Psychology teacher with 25 years’ experience teaching in Sixth Form and FE Colleges. During my teaching career, I have led a successful Psychology Department, supported thousands of students and helped them achieve the grades they need to progress to their chosen university courses and careers.
I have also worked as an experienced Psychology examiner for 17 years, marking examinations across a range of exam boards including AQA, CIE, Edexcel, IB and OCR. This experience has given me an in-depth understanding of what examiners are looking for and, importantly, what makes the difference between an average answer and a high-mark answer.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Biology and a Master’s degree (MSc) in Psychology.
Since 2015, I have provided private Psychology tuition, both online and face-to-face. I particularly enjoy working with students on a 1:1 basis because it allows me to get to know each student as individuals, understanding how they learn best so I can tailor lessons specifically to their needs.
I am proud that in the 2026 exam season, 100% of my students achieved a pass, with 91% achieving high grades. All of my students went on to secure their first choice of university course or employment.
A-Level Psychology is a fascinating subject, but it can also feel overwhelming. There is a lot of content to learn, alongside research methods, application and evaluation, as well as the challenge of understanding exactly what examiners want to see. This is where I can help.
Having worked as both a teacher and examiner, I understand the course from both sides. I don't simply teach students what they need to know, I teach them how to use that knowledge effectively in an exam.
My lessons focus on developing strong knowledge and understanding, while also building the skills needed to achieve the highest possible marks. Students learn how to apply psychological knowledge, evaluate research and theories, structure their answers effectively and address the AO1, AO2 and AO3 assessment objectives.
I keep fully up to date with changes to specifications and examination requirements and am happy to support students studying any UK or international A-Level Psychology specification.
Every student is different ~ some students come to me because they are aiming for the very highest grades. Others may be struggling with a particular topic, lacking confidence or simply unsure about how to turn what they know into good exam responses. Whatever their starting point, I believe that students learn best when they feel supported, understood and confident enough to ask questions.
All my tuition is delivered on a 1:1 basis online, using video or audio links. This gives students my full attention and allows every lesson to be personalised to their individual needs. We focus on the areas where they feel they need the most support, whether that is understanding difficult psychological content, improving exam technique, developing evaluation skills or preparing for specific examinations.
I also offer additional exam paper marking and detailed homework and feedback packages. These are particularly popular during the revision and examination period, when students want extra reassurance that they are answering questions at the level required by their exam board.
In this, students receive detailed feedback on their responses, including how they can improve their knowledge, application, evaluation and exam technique. My aim is not simply to tell students what they got wrong, I want them to understand why an answer could be improved and, most importantly, how to apply that learning to their next question.
I set up Study Psychology because I wanted to provide students with the kind of focused, personalised support that can make a real difference to their confidence and exam performance.
For me, the most rewarding part of tutoring is seeing a student who once doubted their ability become confident in their psychological knowledge, improve their exam technique and ultimately achieve a result they can be proud of.
